Collaborative creatives

Im so so lucky to be able to network so fluidly with creatives wherever I go.  I think creatives are happy people and i believe that happiness breeds happiness.

Last week I met Abigail Lawrence.  She is a hidden gem of a MUA based in Wigan.  The moment she came to the studio, both Ellie and I were enamoured.  We have so much in common, one being crafts (can you believe it?! - yay!)  Her portfolio is out of this world and of course her own makeup and MEZZIN eyebrows are testament to her talent.  Abi  is going to work on some makeover shoots with me and I cannot wait for her to transform our clients.

She came over again today and we talked about anything and everything.  Every time we divert a subject and lead onto something els,e we are both laughing as we are very much into the same thing.  I think she is adorable.  So, whilst she was in the studio, I wanted to try out my newest beauty dish on her.  Test shots are a photographers dream and as i am obsessed with light fall in anyway that enhances skin tone, Abi was my perfect test girl.

She has the most striking jawline and skin.  The camera loves her and I love my beauty dish.  So it was a winner all round.  These were just a few of the beauty dish shots, working the butterfly effect.  There arde a million lighting effects i want to use all of the time but some faces and angles just won't work - these ones do.  It helps that Abi has an amazing face :)

And now I must go as Im up early for a client shoot viewing and she has over 300 images to scroll through!

Im back with ATC's tomorrow :)

fits and starts

Being self employed is so scary at times but its also balanced with calm.  There are days when Ive literally got nothing to do and then others where I get 4 hours sleep a night.  Its a real mish mash but in all honestly I don't think I could go back to 9-5, really.  This week (meaning starting today) I have had a ton of work.

I've recently started doing Zed cards/Model cards for actors and Models.  It harmonises with head shots that I do but also........I provide the best prices for them.  Agencies are ripping off models and actors with hideous costs on them.

So if you know any aspiring creative who needs some, point them here under the "print" heading.

Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeen..........My pop up banners have surged again, namely down to my extended offer of them being £55 including delivery and carry case.  Crazy, right?  Here is one I completed today and it shall be with Sharon on Wednesday.  That is crazy, right?  I even designed the logo.

by the way, if you live in Wigan and want AMAZING cakes, Sharon does the best HERE

And then Ive had a pile of leaflets and postcards to do, espesh in the run up to Christmas.

Love being busy, love being useful too!

Us time

With our routines being quite manic during the week, us Wiseman's live for the weekends and school breaks.  Well, College really.  Mark is a college lecturer and contrary to most people's expectations, he doesn't get the full allocation breaks like most teachers.  I think he gets 3 weeks less but still.  Ellie has now started her College break which means we get more time together.  I love it.

We were going to go and spend some time with my parents but my car is falling apart and needs repairs.  Its not going past 60mph and despite having the lander sensor changed two weeks back, its gone again but the damage stretches to the exhaust.  Its all far too male and technical for me but I can't really complain as my car has been fairly good to me for the past 8 years until earlier this year when it started to go in various parts.  Plus I don't want to replace her; she is lovely little thing.

So we are stuck here this week but in the mean time, I've managed to secure a booking plus some design work.  Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand both Ellie and I spent time in my craft room, sorting.

I've put aside a mound of supplies I want to sell.  I was going to list them tonight but we went to the cinema instead to watch Madagascar 3-  It was FANTASTIC and many times I was smiling and laughing.  The humour cracks me up and you can bet I'll be singing "Da da da-da la-da da da da daaaaaaaaaa, Afro circus, Afro circus.  Polka dot, polka dot, Afro circus".

Do check back as I have craft books, embossing folders, trimmers, stamps, embellishments, a craft robo, scrapbook albums, inks, paints, papers and all sorts being put in my mini sale.  I want to put the proceeds towards a lens and a couple of backdrops for the studio.

So, we were in the craft room and as she was sorting my buttons out, I played with a few of my stamps.  These were launched last February (with PI) but I've only just received the hard version!

Its fun to work with them with coloured inks beuase, as you know, you only design stamps in black.  This is what I made

And these colour make me happy plus the stamps look so much better when inked up and stamped - more than I imagined when I designed them.  The words fit inside the banners and are so easy to cut out/around.

Then yesterday, seeing as it was so beautiful and crisp, Mark and I took poochy on a long, autumn walk.  It was exhilarating.  Beech, Cherry blossom and Sycamore trees usually bear the most fabulous colours and this beech was no exception.  The camera on the iPhone 4 is not that bad, really..... is it?

I couldn't resist posing like a proper wally in this picture.  If you can't pose like a wally in your favourite season, where else can you do it?

Talking of Ellie, she has been spending a lot of her time with us of late.  She normally burrows in her own room and does her own thing.  Ive hated that for the past few years but that's who she is and you just have to let your kids have a bit of free leash.  I'm so relieved that she now sits in the lounge with us on a night although she is draining our bandwidth by traversing YouTube watching free movies and funny animal clips.  And as I enjoy watching her and wondering about her, I notice just how grown up she is looking:

And as I write this blog post, she is sat up with me - just snuggling and being cosy in our teeny, tiny home.  Late nights on college breaks with my girl is the BEST time.

Still in mourning

Dear  Julian Fellowes

I am unable to compute effectively since Sybil died two episodes ago.

Bring her back, like Dallas did with Bobby Ewing.

But not in some weird shower slash dream like fashion.

No, bring her back and pretend that the other Sybil was a fake Sybil baked out of cake by Mrs Patmore.

Yours hopefully

Kirsty "I am not liking this Sybil death at all.  Not ever." Wiseman

Stationery

Did I spell that right?  Oh you know me and my typos!

Alongside my photography business, I still craft professionally and I also design and print stationery with exceptionally superb prices.

Pop up/Roll up Banners
My pop up banners are currently £55 inc delivery for a limited time (normally £65).  Maybe snap up two for £90!  I can help with art work on these.  My customers buy these for exhibitions and events. Pink Jelly Marketing were DELIGHTED with their recent banner order.

Leaflets and Postcards
These can be printed on weights up to 400gsm and all my recent customers have been greatly satisfied with their stationery.  Ultimate Collection, of Ashton in Makerfield, ordered some postcards to market their Halloween makeovers last week and when Gill received her order, she called me up screaming at how thoroughly pleased she was.  That made me happy - everybody wins.

Here are sample prices of my stationery slash printing costs - you don't have to live near me, you could be anywhere in EUROPE for that matter and all these prices include delivery (except the banners for Europe.  Banners are UK postcodes only).

What can I do for YOU today?

Keep your eyes peeled

I have about 30 art journal/scrapbook/cardmaking books (good titles) coming up for sale along with an array of mini kits of all unused stash (think matching buttons, embellishments and papers and card etc).  These will be in 8x8 format so perfect for matting, layering, cards and 8x8 sized pages.

Ive got this Sunday morning free to list and box and arrange to make way for a big sale.  All will be listed on this page.  I just need to have a clear out to make space and put towards a new lens.

I'll still be crafting but with the wedge of stash I have here, I have enough to last me 473657136570657436 life times.

Laughter - the best medicine

I had a family of cousins in the studio today.
I asked Little Miss E to bounce on top of the rest of the kids in the pile up.
It resulted in this.

Makes me smile witnessing such laughter.

Happiness

Happiness is when you do a shoot and within half a day, the parents have images for prints within a few hours.

Happiness is various hats, backdrops, floordrops, fun props including poop, pee and spit-ups.

Happiness is working with a baby that you think you could quite easily steal.

Happiness is photographs that are taken in natural daylight.

Happiness is often disguised over a super warm room, a little teeny, tiny baby boy who couldn't truly settle, a photographer getting into positions that a contortionist would envy and Daddy covered in pee.

Meet Fin, in all his downy haired, pink cheeked goodness - complete with hats and pouty lips.

Happiness is achieving your aim.
And that is spreading more happiness.

PS:  Jude?  The Giraffe from yesterdays post was from a little packet of stickers I found in a £ shop **blush**

Little bendy babies

Give me any baby but most of all give me a bendy baby.
A baby photographed within 10 days of being born has this knack of sleeping in many posable positions without harm.  After all, they are used to being squished up snug and cosy for 9 months. But after about day 10 or so, they are used to a far lesser restriction and are more likely to flail due its freedom.  Hence why we swaddle little bubbas when they are born - to make them feel secure and as if still cocooned in momma's tum.

Tomorrow I have the delicious pleasure of photographing Baby F.  He is the 5 day old son of one of the girls who befriended Ellie last year.  I feel like Im an Auntie and Chloe cannot wait to show him off to me let alone me take the pictures of him.  And of course, I will be aching between now and then for a proper, full on snuggette.  I LOVE BABIES!

Here is his arrival card from us.  I wanted to stray away from blue and go for something off beat but still "babified".

And now I must try and sleep and countdown the 463573265765810607365176 nano seconds until he is in my arms.

A curious little shop

Don't you just love it when you go somewhere very special and quaint and you don't have your super duper camera with you?  Yur, well.... that was me today.  This afternoon I went over to see my friend Helen to help her with a few photoshop exercises but before we got stuck in, she took me to lunch at Calooh Callay, in Clitheroe.  Helen knows me very little but what she does know of me, she knows so well.  This shop is a haven to all things Alice in Wonderland from tea cup and saucer lampshades to pink flamingo wallpaper.  the food and drinks that they serve are off beat but most of all, they are HEAVENLY.

I took only two pictures.  One of the tea menu

and one of my rose lemonade (but it came out blurry so I nabbed this off the net).

This lemonade is beyond perfection.  I must find this in the shops for me to consume on very selfish afternoons when I need a pep-up.  Imagine me sprawled on a chaise lounge sipping these and suffering from a very affected migraine.  I think this will cure all ails.  Its a very happy drink.

Whilst out on our very sophisticated afternoon, we came across these little monsters.

I have been after vintage french fruit crates since 21AD.  Every time I have seen them for sale, they have been approx £9485247657236751637065.  Today they were £5.50 each.  THAT IS OBSCENE!

So I bought three and have reserved some more for my props in the studio.  Im exasperated - so much so that only a rose lemonade might calm me down.  These will be perfect for a newborn shoot on Sunday.  Im photographing a little boy who was born on Tuesday!  **ovarie's in knots**

Then it was back to Helens to get down to some nitty gritty design work.  Helen has two of the most ADORBS pooches in the world.  Chico, whom I have met before and little Mia.  My heart was crushed to hear and witness little Mia's suffering.  It sounds like she has an arthritic problem and to see her struggle to walk broke by heart into a zillion squishy bits of jelly.  I loved her immediately.  I even want her and was weighing up trading my Mac computer for her.  I knew Ellie would be BESIDE herself to see a picture of her, so Helen took this before I left.  **sniff sniff**

It wasn't long before I was on the road home to my darlings and, of course, to this little scamp who would have sniffed out Mia's scent on me 10 miles from home.  He will always be my number one love but Mia is closely pipping him!

Night all x
